Certificate in Applied Video for Golf Coaching

Same swing. Different camera. Different lesson.

Your camera records the swing. Your skill determines how useful that recording becomes.

The angle you choose, the frames you capture and the references you draw all influence what you see, and what your player takes away. These are skills worth developing deliberately.

This is the first certificate dedicated solely to the expert use of video in golf coaching. Developed and delivered by Hugh Marr, drawing on more than 40 years of coaching experience, it turns video use into a disciplined, repeatable skill.

What you will be able to do

Set up repeatable Front On and Down the Line recordings, and know when a rear view adds useful information.

Check angle, focus, frame rate, composition and camera stability before you analyse anything.

Place and name primary references consistently, then select secondary references for a specific question.

Describe visible movement, recognise the limits of two-dimensional video and make fair comparisons.

Organise a useful player library and give clear practice and follow-up instructions between sessions.

Four live webinars

Thursdays at 16:00 UK time 路 17:00 Central European time 路 11:00 US Eastern
Every session recorded for registered participants.

10 December

Create recordings you can trust

The five recording checks, camera alignment and height, and how camera errors change the apparent movement.

7 January

Establish consistent primary references

Named references by camera view, placed at the right frame, with a fixed baseline you can rely on every session.

4 February

Investigate with purpose

Secondary references for a clear question, fair comparisons, and separating observation from interpretation.

4 March

Make video useful beyond the lesson

An organised Onform player library, focused feedback and clear instructions for what players send you next.

How you earn the certificate

The certificate recognises your effective use of video, reference points and communication. Attendance alone does not qualify.

Theory test

Recording standards, camera views, primary and secondary references, annotation, fair comparison, library organisation and communication. Expect to explain choices and recognise errors, not just recall facts. Open manual and untimed; pass mark 80% (40 of 50).

Practical evidence pack

Five tasks built from your own coaching:

1. Record footage you can trust
2. Apply the primary reference system
3. Investigate and compare
4. Organise a usable player record
5. Communicate the next step

Submit by 18 March 2027. Feedback within 14 days, with one further attempt included for any component not passed first time. Assessment led by Hugh Marr. The work is judged on your use of video and communication, not on agreement with a particular swing model.

What's included

Four one-hour live webinars with Hugh Marr

Recordings of every session

The Video in Practice manual: illustrated reference points, camera standards and linked demonstrations

Practical assignments using your own footage in Onform

Who it's for

Golf coaches who already use video and want it to be dependable, consistent and genuinely useful to their players, in lessons and between them.

It does not assess your wider coaching philosophy, and you don't need a launch monitor.
